MZ-1000 Submerged Arc Welder

The MZ-1000 is a 1000A heavy-duty submerged arc welding tractor system engineered for high-deposition longitudinal and circumferential welding on pressure vessels, wind tower sections, ship panel lines, and large-diameter pipe. The system consists of a 1000A IGBT inverter DC power source, a self-propelled tractor carriage with an automatic wire feed unit, a flux hopper with gravity-fed delivery, and a flux recovery system. With a deposition rate exceeding 15 kg of weld metal per hour (using a 4.0 mm twin-wire configuration) and a 100% duty cycle, the MZ-1000 delivers the throughput that heavy fabrication operations demand.

Submerged arc welding offers distinct advantages for thick-section fabrication: the granular flux blanket shields the arc completely, eliminating spatter and UV radiation while producing a smooth, uniform bead profile with deep penetration. The MZ-1000 supports single-wire and tandem-wire configurations with wire diameters from 2.0 mm to 5.0 mm, making it adaptable to everything from root passes on 10 mm plate to multi-pass fill welding on 100 mm wall thicknesses. The tractor runs on a V-groove rail system with adjustable travel speed from 250 to 1250 mm per minute, and the flux recovery system continuously vacuums unfused flux from behind the weld zone for reuse, reducing flux consumption by up to 60% compared to non-recovery setups.

Where the MZ-1000 Excels

Pressure Vessel Manufacturing

Longitudinal and circumferential seam welding of ASME Section VIII pressure vessels with wall thickness from 10 to 100 mm. Deep penetration reduces the number of weld passes and associated NDT costs.

Wind Tower Section Welding

Automated longitudinal seam welding of wind tower can sections. Tractor carriage travels along V-groove rails on large turning rolls for continuous circumferential welds.

Shipbuilding Panel Lines

Butt welding of deck and hull panels from 12 to 40 mm shipbuilding steel. Flux recovery system reduces material waste in continuous panel line production.

LPG & LNG Storage Tanks

Welding of cryogenic storage tank shell courses from fine-grain carbon manganese steel. The submerged arc process produces consistent mechanical properties across full-length seams.

Large-Diameter Pipe Mills

Spiral and longitudinal pipe welding for oil and gas transmission pipelines (API 5L Grade X52 to X70). High deposition rates meet the throughput requirements of continuous pipe mill production.

Heavy Structural Columns

Built-up box column and H-beam fabrication for high-rise buildings. Tandem-wire configuration doubles deposition rate for thick flange-to-web fillet welds on jumbo sections.

Why Choose the MZ-1000

High Deposition Rate — Up to 15 kg/h

Using a 4.0 mm wire at 1000A, the MZ-1000 deposits 15 kg of weld metal per hour in a single pass — approximately 5 to 8 times faster than manual stick welding. Tandem-wire configuration can push this to 25 kg/h for the most demanding production schedules.

Continuous Flux Recovery System

The integrated vacuum recovery unit continuously collects unfused flux from behind the weld puddle and returns it to the hopper. This recovers up to 60% of flux for reuse, dramatically reducing consumable costs on long seam welds — a single 10 L hopper fill can support several metres of continuous welding.

Wide Wire Diameter Range (2.0 – 5.0 mm)

The wire feed unit accommodates solid wires from 2.0 mm to 5.0 mm, enabling fine current selection for different joint geometries. Use smaller diameters for root passes and out-of-position work; switch to larger diameters for high-deposition fill and cap passes that minimise welding time.

Zero Spatter, Zero UV Exposure

The granular flux blanket completely submerges the arc, eliminating welding spatter, fume, and ultraviolet radiation at the source. Operators work in a cleaner, safer environment with no need for heavy fume extraction or welding screens — a significant HSE advantage over open-arc processes.
