  • Mechanical durability: Enclosure strength, drop testing, handle integrity, and protection against mechanical hazards
  • Rating plate requirements: The machine must display a permanently affixed rating plate with duty cycle, current range, no-load voltage, and manufacturer identification

The CE Certification Process

    Identify Applicable Directives

    For welding machines: Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU), and where applicable, Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC).

    Conduct Conformity Assessment

    Third-party testing at an accredited laboratory against EN 60974-1. This includes thermal cycling tests, dielectric withstand tests, IP rating verification, and EMC emissions/immunity testing.

How to Verify Welding Machine Certifications

Counterfeit certification claims are common in the welding equipment import industry. Here is how to verify that certificates are genuine before placing an order.

CE Certification Verification

  1. Request the EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC). A legitimate CE DoC must include: manufacturer name and address, product model and serial number range, list of applicable directives, list of harmonized standards applied, Notified Body name and number (if applicable), and signature of an authorized representative with date.
  2. Verify the Notified Body number. If the DoC references a Notified Body (4-digit number), look up that number in the EU NANDO database (ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/nando). A valid Notified Body must be listed there.
  3. Check the test report. Request the EN 60974-1 test report from the accredited laboratory. Cross-reference the laboratory name with national accreditation bodies (e.g., DAkkS in Germany, UKAS in UK, CNAS in China).
  4. Verify the rating plate. The CE mark on the product rating plate should match the DoC. The plate must also display the technical parameters required by EN 60974-1.

CSA Certification Verification

  1. Look up the CSA file number. Every CSA-certified product carries a CSA file number on its rating label. Enter this number at the CSA Group Product Listing directory (csagroup.org) to verify current certification status.
  2. Check the CSA mark. Legitimate CSA marks include the CSA monogram with "C" and "US" indicators. The mark must appear on the product rating label, not only on packaging or manuals.
  3. Verify factory location. CSA certification is factory-specific. Confirm that the factory address on the certificate matches the actual production location. Relocating production without re-certification invalidates the listing.
  4. Check certification scope. Verify that the specific model numbers you are importing appear within the CSA certification scope. A company-level certification does not cover all models — each model family requires separate qualification.
